This is a very succinct consideration of mere aspects of the Protestant Reformation:
Translated New Testament into German (the language of the common people)
The Protestant Reformation, at least the Augustinian monk Martin Luther (1483-1546) aspect of it, was based on a disputation regarding indulgences. This lead to disputations about the religious system that had established and promoted indulgences.
In fact, the 95 Theses did not cover 95 subjects but rather, were 95 points upon which Martin Luther established his disputation of the practice of indulgences.
This is why the 95 Theses is also known as Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences.
As an example of the disputation let us consider #81-83:
This unbridled preaching of indulgences makes it difficult for learned men to guard the respect due to the pope against false accusations, or at least from the keen criticisms of the laity;
They ask, for example: Why does not the pope liberate everyone from purgatory for the sake of love (a most holy thing) and because of the supreme necessity of their souls? This would be morally the best of all reasons. Meanwhile he redeems innumerable souls for money, a most perishable thing, with which to build St. Peter’s church, a very minor purpose.
Again: Why should funeral and anniversary masses for the dead continue to be said? And why does not the pope repay, or permit to be repaid, the benefactions instituted for these purposes, since it is wrong to pray for those souls who are now redeemed?
This disputation was originally a request for a debate from Martin Luther. Thus, he shows concern for the maintaining of guarding the respect due to the pope. He voices the concerns of the laity by posing an extremely vital question why not deliver people from their suffering in Purgatory for the sake of love instead of for money.
But why is it wrong to pray for those souls who are now redeemed because as Luther had explained in #8, “The penitential canons apply only to men who are still alive, and, according to the canons themselves, none applies to the dead.”
Even after dead the Roman Catholic religious system attempt to keep a hold of their parishioners.
While Martian Luther was engaged in his momentous struggle for reformation Huldrych Zwingli, a busy and popular parish priest in Switzerland, was also dealing with the beginnings of reformation in that country.
Other reformers such as William Tyndale gave us the English Bible.
John Calvin was an influential Bible teacher and systematizer of doctrines of the reformed faith.
Many others helped to transform Europe and the world.
One of the Protestant Reformation’s complaints was that the church was following Old Testament Judaism as a pattern, as opposed to New Testament Christianity.
The Apostle Paul wrote,
Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ (Colossians 2:16-17).
Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods. But now that you know God—or rather are known by God—how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you (Galatians 4:8-11).
One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it (Romans 14:5-6).
